Gatehouse Motel

This is a small, privately-owned, family-run motel that is a few minutes outside of downtown Corning, straight down Route 86. We were here overnight for the Wine Glass Marathon. Room wasn't great (we were in a room that's not yet renovated. Seems likes they're working on it), wifi didn't work, but staff was friendly and accommodating. Pleasant experience all in all. Price was very reasonable. No worries about staying here again next year.

This is a nice, quiet out of the way place to stay. Staying anywhere inside of Corning will either put you next to a busy freeway or in a shopping plaza. The lawns here are kept clean and well maintained. You might see some of the local inhabitants foraging the grounds. Chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits and a variety of birds. Blue jays, finches, cardinals, and hummingbirds. Our room featured a mini fridge and microwave. The bathroom had a ceiling heat lamp. We had two chairs and a table for eating or doing paperwork. Anything we requested such as clean linens, clean towels, soap, toilet paper, plastic cups, etc. was provided. The only downside we had during our stay was that the room only had a single available outlet near the sink, which made using and charging a laptop difficult. Though, an extension cord may have been available if we had asked. As a side note: If you choose to stay amongst the non-smoking rooms, please be considerate and don't smoke in it. It can bother other guests (such as myself) and may prevent you from renting a room again.

The outside appearance is not great as previous owner ran down the property. The inside however is fixed up beautifully. New management is doing a great job. Driving in I was thinking what are we in for here then entering the room was such a wonderful surprise. Very happy and impressed comfy clean room. So glad we stopped here.

It was a pleasant little place, if a bit old. Everything the room had worked (didn't try the cable or TV), and everything was clean. Pillows leave something to be desired, but nothing an extra blanket and towel couldn't fix. WiFi worked, if a bit spotty from our room. Still though, I'm overall happy about the price and our stay!

I really like this place. I like the smaller facilities where you can actually pull up to a door and get to your vehicle easily. I travel with a dog, and there was lots of areas to walk her. The lady who helped me was amazing and so nice. The room was older but I kind of like that honestly. In the age of mega hotels this was a pleasant relief for me. Nice big room, very quiet.

The place was very clean and we found the service to be just fine. We communicated with the owner(?)/manager via email and she emptied the garbage and gave us fresh towels. The place is old and outdated and there was mold on the shower ceiling. But the beds were clean and comfortable, the room did not smell, and the price was very good. We stayed for a week and it was all we needed. Bring an extension cord with you as there are few outlets. There was no shampoo but we had our own. I wish the shower had some pressure. That was a drawback. But otherwise, we had a good week at a reasonable price.

We stayed three nights. The new owner has completed extensive renovations. Our room was new and exactly like the photos online. Management was very receptive and provided us with recommendations for local restaurants and vineyards. We will definitely stay again.

It's nice to have a kitchen with a stove, fridge and microwave in the room.
